Garbo started off fairly minor but has now become one of the most recognisable Crumpit characters and is one of the main five along with Randy, Louie, Roxanne and Bruno. Garbo was first created for a live library puppet show featuring fairy tales acted out by various Crumpit characters. His name came from circus performer Fred Garbo best known for his America's Got Talent act Inflatable Circus and for playing the role of Barkley the dog on Sesame Street. The reasoning behind his name was something that changed very quickly but the name Garbo stayed as it had a nice ring to it.
It should be noted that although Garbo has been through a lot of changes he has never been completely rebuilt. The same Garbo puppet from day one is still in use to this day he's just gone through a large number of modifications and upgrades.
The first Garbo made in summer of 2018 is fairly different than how you see him now. Everything inside of him except his head and feet is made from chopped foam. His right hand is pinned to his chest only allowing his left arm to be puppeteered. His eyes have very small blue pupils. The first version of Garbo was envisioned as a bookworm who loved reading about anything with excitement and adventure. While this isn't what Garbo is like today, bits and pieces of this have stayed with him over time.
In 2020 Garbo is updated with bigger black pupils to make his eye focus better than before . his right arm is also detached allowing both arms to be puppeteered. The fur along the sides of his face is styled with the sides curling up and the top pointing upwards. His teeth are now replaced with yellow foam teeth.
Later in 2020 the sides of his face are brushed to make them fluffier and loose. Also his feet are replaced with a large pair of pink and yellow shoes.
In December of 2020 Garbo is modified once again for The Rat Who Saved Christmas this time with a bigger and sturdier mouth. During The Rat Packs first season the following month he is given his Coconutman costume establishing a new alter ego for him which would become one of the most well known things about him.
In fall of 2021 for A Crumpits Christmas Carol Garbo's foam is completely removed from the inside of him and replaced with stuffing as all other Crumpits are and now has a cotton tube inside his torso as the tunnel to his head.
In March of 2022 for Sid Krofft's 100th Livestream Garbo is modified with white dots in his pupils giving him the now established Crumpit style eyes.
For a photo shoot the following month Garbo's snout and fingers are draped over with a new custom dyed fleece. His nose is also replaced with a plastic nose covered in blue denim.
In the summer of 2022 Garbo is given a MAJOR upgrade. His fur is given a Mane and Tail shampoo treatment to give it a loose and scruffier texture. His eyes have now been moved upwards to give him better focus and his pupils have a dark green border around the pupils and light green beads in the centre of them. He now has another layer of fur around his face making the fur sticking out of the top and sizes stronger. His nose now has a line under it to give his face more definition. His tongue is replaced with one that looks more like a gorilla tongue. Also he now has regular feet once again giving him the option to change or take off his shoes.
Alternate Garbo Gorilla puppets
Baby Garbo-
Made in mid 2021 the Baby Garbo puppet is frequently used in the Baby Pictures segment hosted by Twister featuring the Crumpit babies on The Rat Pack show.
Gingerbread Garbo-
This gingerbread man version of Garbo was used in the 22nd episode of The Rat Pack show in which Mr Nosh makes a wish that everything he touched turned into a pastry and accidentally turns Garbo and Louie into gingerbread men.
Garbo's alter egos
Coconutman-
As mentioned before Garbo's alter ego Coconutman is one of the most notable things about his character. The Coconutman costume was made in January of 2021 and Coconutman was introduced on the third episode of The Rat Pack on February 14th. This would help establish Garbo's love for adventure and comic books. Eventually Bruno was established as his sidekick Tropical Boy and his butler Tozier Toucan was created.
The Ghost of Christmas Present-
In the 2021 film A Crumpits Christmas Carol Garbo played the role of the ghost of Christmas present with Bruno as his feathered companion. His costume consists of a large blue and red robe (which has been used for several different things for the Crumpits) with a wired artificial green reef around the top of his head.
So that's the history and evolution of Garbo Gorilla. Once again he has come a long way like most Crumpits do and has been given a lot of development and growth overtime making him who he is today.
